Pramono Pushes to Make Jakarta a Creative Economy Hub

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the creative economy is one of the key drivers of Jakarta's economy, contributing around Rp410 trillion.

He said the sector's potential needs to be further developed to help creative businesses drive local enterprises and create more jobs.

Pramono made the remarks while speaking at the 5th World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE 2026) at the Kempinski Hotel Jakarta on Friday (10/23).

"Jakarta's creative economy makes a substantial contribution, accounting for nearly 11 percent. Its value is around Rp410 trillion from economic activities in Jakarta, which is a significant amount," Pramono noted.

Various creative economy activities have had a significant impact on Jakarta's economy, including the Jakarta Fair, Jakarta Great Sale, concerts by international musicians, and international-scale sporting events.

To support the creative economy, the Jakarta Provincial Government has introduced various initiatives, including tax relief of up to 50 percent for the film industry. This support reflects the fact that more than 80 percent of film industry activities take place in Jakarta.

"We hope Jakarta will be more than just a place to watch films. We also want it to be a place where creators can make films, with lower production costs and financing," Pramono said.

The Jakarta Provincial Government also provides spaces where creative professionals can develop their ideas, meet, and collaborate, including in the Blok M area.

Pramono said the Jakarta Provincial Government and the Ministry of Creative Economy were working together to position Jakarta as a new hub for creative industries. He added that the city's facilities and ease of access made it well suited to host a wide range of activities.

Pramono welcomed WCCE 2026 in Jakarta, saying the conference had contributed significantly to the city.

Creative Economy Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya acknowledged the Jakarta Provincial Government's role in organizing the event, which attracted 6,100 participants, 38 delegations, and 180 speakers from more than 80 countries.

"We would like to thank the Jakarta Provincial Government for its collaborative support, including in promoting the event and providing other forms of assistance," he said.
